Can anyone identify this fish???

My son and I caught this while seining this past weekend in Silver Bay.

It appears to be some sort of Jack that I am having trouble identifying.

I would guess a small Black Drum or a Croaker You could always email it to NJ division fish and game.

Not quite sure but it looks like a banded rudderfish to me.

 Just kidding,,  As Bucktail said, It does look like a butterfish but they do not have stripes.  Or do they? :-\ :P

definitely not a butterfish, nor is it even remotely close to a black drum or croaker.

Banded rudderfish is the closest thus far, but I am almost certain that this is some type of jack.

I have a few guesses.....
Horse-eye jack?
Yellow Jack?
Bar Jack?

I think I am leaning towards a Blue Runner which is sometimes also known as "Hardtail"

i have used the blue runners as bait and i dont think its a blue runner....unless its a juvenille
blue runner, the ones i have used never had the vertical stripes.  definately in the jack family tho.

Definitely NOT a rudderfish, its some kind of jack like a horse-eye in its infancy.

hmmmm.....hard to tell....those stripes have me boggled....that could be from the fish being dead tho ( im assuming it is because the gills and mouth are in the same position in every pic)
its close so i have to go with it....juvenile horse eyed jack!
