Caught a beautiful large black today, and find them to be plentiful here on the canal!!  Saw the "watcher" catching the illegals on Sunday on the other side which had quite a bit of activity and marching them along with their illegal bounty towards the street!

Welcome and nice catch!  The Canal is a big spot for the CO's to patrol.  There is a lot of illegal fish kept there for some reason.  I hope they try to educate them as best they can, instead of just punishing them 5hrug!

Fished the canal from 1600 to 1800 today and got the royal skunk. Fished the north end amongst all the toggers. Threw a wild eye for the most part, then switched it up with a x-rap. Conditions were good, low amounts of vegetation, and next to no boat traffic ;D. Not many tog coming over the fence either, slow pick of shorts.

Bay Head end of the canal

I did have a chance to get out and fish the Bay Head end of the canal on Wednesday night...
The wind was way to strong to go out with the kayak... So we just fished the Dock at the end of Bay Ave and over at the yacht club... We had bass up to 36" with only one at 28"....

We used the 5" Storm shad in pearl which seemed to be all they wanted.... The bait in the back is still thick... If Saturday night does become nasty and fishing the beach is a problem.... I recommend the canal for your fishing go to spot.

If you plan on fishing some place other then the two ends... The Bridge Ave or the 88 bridge should also work very well.... Work the wall...
Cast out and let your soft plastic bait swing into the wall... The bass will be holding up tight to the wall.... So hold on to your rod.

I have taken bass in the canal up to 40 pounds in November... Dont let this place fool you when it comes to bass fishing... Stay with it...and dont give up

The areas I fish are the ones you said where a wast of time

That doesn't surprise me!  I think the out of towners are foreign immigrants who don't know any better.  Most of them do not speak English and come from countries where there are no fishing laws or rules.  That's why if the CO's would educate them, it might help.  In their defense, where they come from, when they are hungry and want to eat, they go catch or hunt their food.  That is their way of life, so they think they can do the same here.  They look at it as an almost free meal.  Kind of can't blame them there!

Now, if they know they are breaking the rules...they should be punished.  There is no excuse for that 5hrug!!

They know what they are doing. My mom works with a few immigrants and they always talk about keeping short fish. That has been going on for about 10 years now.

I think if they truly did not know about size regs they would be baffled as to why people are throwing fish back. It's the same people at these spots all the time.

Nice clean bass.

Fished the canal from about 7am-8:30am.  5oz bank sinker, dropper, #5 snelled Virginia hook, green crabs.

One FAT 14.5 inch keeper, some toy togs up to 12inches or so.

Met Foul Hook from this site.  He had one that was 13 and 7/8 and the usual mix of shorts.

I left them biting.  Foul Hook, hope you got the big one and nice speaking with you.

It is always great to unexpectantly meet someone from the site. Finally put a face to the name. t^

the ones asking about the canal fishing here is a little insight

blackfish are generally always in there all winter. there are 3 spots i know of that you can generally pick up keeper after keeper. if you see anyone keeping short fish call the warden immediately as there is always one hanging around at the canal. place needs to be cleaned up of the scum.

weakfish really didn't make an appearance at all this year. everything was hit or miss and more on the miss side.

blues are still hanging in the canal mostly at the north end. my father(wink_man) was fishing eels looking for some larger striper's than we have been catching and pulled in some alligators.

striper's have been hot. catching loads of them with good size. caught several keepers just yesterday in an hour and a half.

hope everyone has a great fishing season i know i will.

I hit the canal today from 4-630pm.  Had no luck in my search for stripers and blues. The other hundred people there were catching blackfish. mostly shorts. Maybe its time to hit the beach.
