Ok guys here it is...direct answer from Chuck...

Saturday January 22nd. From 9am to 4pm. Complete open access to our facilities and we will cover everything we can upon request, all impromptu. From making wind-ons and assist hooks to bait rigging, splicing hollow core, all facets of rigging spreader bars and the like.

Anything you see on our web site we can go over in detail and I’ll make sure we have baits and all the materials we’re going to need. Let me know about the in-shore needs and maybe I can persuade a local charter captain to come in as well.

This will be an all day affair which the guys can come and go as they please. Nothing formal, all hands-on and with 20ft ceiling height those that want to can smoke all day long.

We’ll have the coffee and donuts waiting, lunch is on their own. We can have that delivered too.

Look forward and hope the weather cooperates. Maybe we should set a rain date for the following weekend.

Just let me know if anybody has a special request on rigging etc.

All who are interested, this is the date that is set. I will be first on the list, who else is in?
Please let us know here if you plan on attending

This will be here in less than a week. Should be a great time.

Chuck was provided with a list of what you guys asked for and said that there should be no problem fitting all of it in. He stressed that it will be a VERY informal, non-structured day, which is a big plus, as this will not put us under any time restraints. Chuck can also hit on other topics that we show interest in.  t^

He would like to get this underway at 8am. There will be coffee and donuts waiting for us. If you slide in a little late, no big deal but try to get there on time so you don't miss out on anything.

Pizza, soda and for those who want a beer or two (let's not make a pig out of ourselves with the beer  ;D) is on Hotrod.  clp clp

If you have any interest in going and have not signed up there is still room for more, just post here that you will be going.

Part of the email Chuck sent: If anyone wants to do some rigging on their own they are welcome to use any of what we have here.(bench crimpers etc.)

Got an early start today and headed south on the Garden State Parkway riding shot gun with Pops Soul at the wheel and Bob G and Capt Mike in the back seat. We made it to Tournament Cable just prior to 8am. We were met there by HotRod, Fishin Dude, Brewdaddy and tcdethom4. Chuck had coffee and donuts waiting for us in his shop.

After quick introductions and hellos our day began. The day started with Chuck demonstrating different techniques for rigging ballyhoo and butterfish. He also showed the proper way to prepare the bait prior to rigging.

Next on the menu was the Australian braid. This is a much easier way to make a double line and when tied properly has a 100% breaking strength rating. We did some hands on with the braid and everyone picked up on it pretty quickly.

On to making wind on leaders which included how to make an eye splice in the double braid and inserting the flouro leader inside the braid and properly seizing the line where the leader enters the braid. At this station we also were shown an easy way to make assist hooks.

We discused many of the items he had in his shop and were shown the proper way to crimp sleeves.

Chuck also schooled us on the use of planers and how to deploy them showing us an inovative use of the planers using a bridal inserted into your main line. This system allows the planer to be quickly removed upon cranking it up to the rod so you can continue your fight with rod and reel eliminating the need to hand line the leader.

All in all, this was a great way to spend a cold winter day and a terrific learning experience. I would recommend a visit to Tournament Cable any time you are in the Cape May area.  t^

Yes it was a Great day, You don't get many chances to meet with a major tackle manufacturer who is not afraid to give away secrets and tricks of the trade. Chuck is really a great guy and joined right in on the ball breaking  ;D One of the many things we seen and liked was the "Australian Braid Knot" Here is a video link of how it's done t^ http://videofishingknots.com/plaited-double.html
Chuck also gave each of us a copy of one of his videos.  clp And Yes HotRod did by lunch  thud Thank You Rod. Thank You Joe for getting this one togeather it was well worth the 2 hour ride t^

Wow, yesterday over at Tournament Cable was nothing short of fantastic. Chuck Richardson welcomed us into his manufacturing facility like we had been friends for twenty years. He not only demonstrated various methods of rigging of ballyhoo including multi, off set, weedless, and circle hooks, He taught us how to make the rigs, including the "Tuna Trap", for hiding a wire leader inside a chunk.

Chuck gave us hands on opportunity for everything ,from tying the Australian Braid to making stinger hooks, wind on leaders, simple haywire twist methods , and anything else we wanted to try. We were free to walk around and look and touch anything in his shop, and ANY questions we asked were not only awnsered, but actually shown and explained to us in detail.

Lunch was provided courtesy of NJSWF.COM's own Hotrod, including some fine imported brew.

At the end of the day, I felt as if I was taught some "Trade Secrets", and Chuck gave everyone a free copy of his "Beyond The Basic Ballyhoo" DVD ($29.99 retail value), and an invitation to do it again another time , as well offering help and advice at any time via phone, email, or in person if you want to stop in. What a class act.  t^ t^ chrz  <'((((><

Tournament Cable and Chuck Richardson are both top notch. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet up with Chuck and some of my fellow fisherman to spend the day refining our sport. Chuck is an encyclopedia of information and has had years of hands on experience to back up his works of art “tackle”. If you were able to make this seminar, you would understand why I chose to say works of art. He is constantly evolving his creations to meet the demands of his fellow fisherman. Not only does Chuck invent or fine tune all of his tackle and accessories but also makes or customizes most of the tools used to manufacture them. Wow what a facility, I was in awe all day long and did not want to leave. I felt like a kid in a candy store. If there is an opportunity to go again, I will be sure to be there to pick up some more knowledge, tips, techniques and a glance at some of the new tackle.

I would like to thank Capt. Joe for setting up this fine day and Hotrod for the pizza and brew. I would also like to thank Tournament Cable and Chuck Richardson for a great day filled with information, hands on experience, and for having a great sense of humor. I can’t think of any other company or individual that would be willing to give us this rare opportunity. Guys that did not make this seminar and guys that did not even sign up for this, sorry to say, but it was a definite missed opportunity that is not readily available. This seminar was not just about offshore tackle; in fact, it was about all tackle from bait fishing to beyond tuna and everything in between. If you guys are not fishing with wind-on leaders with your braid, you are missing out. This was not a sales pitch event. Thanks again to all involved and all that participated. Hope to do it again and have a little better turn out from our community…
