I wish I knew what these people were smoking with these ideas. No matter what you do, Mother Nature will win in the end.  How about we stop building along the coast and use some of this proposed $12 billion (NJ real price $25 billion when done) project to buy out some properties and let nature and time do its thing.

I agree.  The only thing that should be along the coast should be sand, t^

I am a firm believer that our society's need to "fix" & "improve" everything is th cause of most of the problems in this world.
This sounds like it came from the same ass hats that planned to drop glacier sized blocks of ice into the ocean ahead of hurricanes to cool the water and kill the storm.
You can not stop nature.   nosmly

It would be impossible to get enough sponges...most are in the state and federal capital buildings coming up with these stupid ideas.  ::)

The thing is, we already have barrier islands off the coast of NJ that buffer the shoreline: Long Beach Island and the one that runs from IBSP to Point Pleasant (aka Barnegat Bay Island, Barnegat Peninsula).

Why do we spend all this money trying to preserve properties that were built on, what are essentially, large sandbars?  5hrug

BINGO, we have a winner! They should realize that we do not need a barrier island to protect a barrier island. Duh.

As the story points out, the government solicited ideas to help protect the shoreline.  This is just one of many ideas that were proposed. This one was submitted by Steven's Institute.  Not by anyone in the government.

Maybe they also think the barrier island will help reduce Sharknados. ;D

also lettem overbuildemup too; think of how much additional property taxes NJ will reap...

we could use all that money to fund Christie's pension at no cost.
