The thing is, we already have barrier islands off the coast of NJ that buffer the shoreline: Long Beach Island and the one that runs from IBSP to Point Pleasant (aka Barnegat Bay Island, Barnegat Peninsula).Why do we spend all this money trying to preserve properties that were built on, what are essentially, large sandbars?

They should realize that we do not need a barrier island to protect a barrier island. Duh.
