As Monday is winding down with a wintry precipitation mess across the state, some areas saw upwards of a foot of snow and others only rain. Precipitation has widely ended and skies should begin to clear. Temperatures have dropped from the 50’s in places to the teens and 20’s. This is causing icing of surfaces. Temperatures will not get above freezing for most tomorrow, so roads and surfaces could be ice covered in the morning and for much of the day. Winds have also increased, with Wind Advisories with gusts to 45 knots. By Tuesday Morning, this system will have cleared and there will be a mix of sun and clouds, however cold with highs only to the upper 20’s at most. Overnight lows will be in the teens and 20’s. Wednesday will bring some chances of snow showers and lower accumulations. Highs will be in the 30’s and 40’s with overnight lows in the teens and 20’s. Thursday will also bring chances of snow showers with highs in the 20’s and 30’s and lows very cold in the negatives to teens at best. Friday will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 20’s and 30’s and lows in the single digits to teens. Water conditions are hazardous tonight with Gale Warnings. Tuesday will start out cautious with Small Craft Advisories improving to borderline. Wednesday and Thursday look to be cautious again with Small Craft Advisories and Friday borderline to good. Surf and beach conditions will range from hazardous to cautious and then ok to good by the end of the week. Water temperatures are steady in the 30’s and 40’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.

Intensifying low pressure south of Nantucket will move off quickly to Nova Scotia late Monday Night. High pressure will then build just south of the area from Tuesday into Wednesday. Low pressure over the Eastern Great Lakes on Wednesday will advance to northern New England late Wednesday Night, sending a strong cold front across the area. High pressure will influence the region for the end of the week, followed by the next cold front settling south through the area Sunday. The next area of large low pressure to monitor should be forming along the Mid-Atlantic Coast next Sunday Night and Monday.

The weekend looks 50%-50% again. Saturday looks clear, highs in the 30’s and lows in the teens and 20’s. Sunday looks like chances of some snow from a potential coastal low. Highs will also be in the 30’s with lows in the teens and 20’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will look cautious to hazardous again with Small Craft Advisories.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: More Snow Wednesday Night - Thursday
« Reply #4 on: February 04, 2015, 10:17:03 AM »
Some more nuisance snow is expected Wednesday Night into Thursday. Anywhere from just showers with no accumulation (even mix or rain) for Southern NJ to 1-2 inches of accumulation for Northern/Northwestern NJ are possible. Most areas will see accumulations of less than an inch. This will affect the morning commute, so roads could be slick and messy in the morning.

Still watching the potential for a more substantial snow Sunday through Tuesday? More to come...

Be safe!
