NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: June 20-21, 2015

This weekend will be a mix with weather and mostly cautious conditions on the water. As the heat and humidity continues, Saturday Day will have chances of showers and thunderstorms with more organized and widespread rain and thunderstorms moving in for Saturday Night. Rain and thunderstorms will continue into Sunday Day. Some of the storms could be strong to severe and the moisture moving in with the remnants of Tropical Depression Bill could bring some flooding conditions. Showers and thunderstorms will become more scattered into Sunday Night. Highs will continue in the upper 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 70’s. Humidity will be high this weekend. Water conditions will be borderline to cautious, mainly for seas, as winds will remain mostly 20 knots or less. Seas could be to 5 feet inshore and 8 feet midshore to offshore. Rivers and bays will be the best bet, however, even the Raritan and Delaware Bays could see seas 2-4 feet. Surf conditions will be good. Surf could be rougher and higher at 2-4 feet at times with a Low to Moderate Risk of Rip Currents. Be careful if swimming or venturing into the surf this weekend. Water temperatures are steady in the 60’s and 70’s. UV Index will be High to Very High at 7-9/15.

A cold front will cross the forecast area today and then stall just to the south. High pressure will build in tonight and then move east Saturday. The front to the south will then move back north as a warm front later on Saturday. The remnants of Tropical Depression Bill will move through the region on Sunday with another series of front early to mid next week.


Next week will continue with the heat and humidity through Tuesday with highs in the 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s. By Wednesday, Thursday and Friday temperatures will be back in the 70’s and low 80’s with 60’s and even some 50’s. Humidity will be high and then moderate to high. It looks mostly dry, however that early half of the week could see thunderstorms due to the heat and humidity. Tuesday Night could see more organized rain and thunderstorms, as a cold front passes through. Water, surf and beach conditions look good except for Monday, Thursday and Friday could be borderline to cautious. Tuesday could see some gustier winds if the front pushes through.

Tropical Storm Bill is now Tropical Depression Bill and will move through the region this weekend bringing additional rains Saturday Night and Sunday Day. Keep an eye on this for any flooding or flash flooding conditions.
