Another mixed bag of weather with mostly cautious water conditions for the week. Coming off of a very mild weekend with way above normal temperatures, the first week of February will be mild to start and then colder air moves in for the mid to end of the week. The weekend was unseasonably warm and that warmer air will hang around for Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will see average temperatures again. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will have chances of showers and rain and even some sleet or wintry mix across northern areas. Scattered showers are possible on Monday with chances increasing into Monday Night. Tuesday’s shower chances will come mainly at night, with isolated to scattered showers. Tuesday Night will have a wintry mix or sleet is possible too, mainly across northern areas. Wednesday will have widespread rain, which will be heavy at times. Rain will continue into the overnight becoming less likely throughout the night. Thursday and Friday will be dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs on Monday will be in the 50’s with 20’s and 30’s overnight. Tuesday will have highs back into the 40’s with overnight lows in the 30’s and 40’s. Wednesday will have highs in the 50’s to 60’s with overnight lows in the 30’s and 40’s. Thursday and Friday will have highs in the 40’s with overnight lows back in the 20’s and 30’s. Water conditions will be mostly cautious with some hazardous conditions for ocean waters. Winds will gust to 30 knots by midweek and seas will push 6-7 feet inshore and 12 feet midshore to offshore. Ocean waters towards the end of the week will be borderline to cautious due to seas, as winds will only be in the 10-15 knot range. Rivers and bays will have slightly better conditions with good to borderline conditions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will have cautious conditions. Fog is possible through midweek. Surf conditions will be OK to cautious with seas averaging 3-5 most of the week. Winds will be gusty through Wednesday with gusts to 30 knots. Wednesday will have 3-6 foot surf and the end of the week will have 1-3 and 2-4 foot surf. Beach conditions may still be poor for many areas, due to the Nor’Easter. Beach replenishment projects are underway, but many areas could still have hazardous conditions. Conditions around the breakers and on the sandbars may be changed and unsteady as well. The structure of the surf zone was greatly changed by the storm. Water temperatures are in the 40’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.
Low pressure located over the Great Lakes on Sunday will move northeastward into Eastern Canada. It is forecast to pull a cold front through the region on Monday with high pressure expected for Tuesday. Another stronger low is anticipated to follow a similar track during the midweek period. It should pull a warm front through the region early on Wednesday followed by a cold front on Wednesday Night. The cold front is forecast to move off the coast slowly with weak areas of low pressure riding along it. High pressure is expected to build into the region from the west late in the week. There is the potential that low pressure will develop off the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Coasts next weekend.
The weekend is a bit uncertain at this point. There is potential for another coastal storm, however if it develops and what it will bring is very uncertain. Right now, as it stands, Saturday will be dry and Sunday will have chances of showers. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s with overnight lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious on Saturday and cautious on Sunday.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
