Snow & Ice for Monday
« on: February 14, 2016, 04:45:46 PM »
Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for areas north and west of the I95 Corridor for Monday. Light snow will begin spreading over the state Monday Morning. Accumulations from less than an inch to 4 inches are possible. Snow will then change over to rain, during this transition sleet and a wintry mix is likely. Changeover will happen much earlier south and east of the I95 corridor. Any accumulations in these areas will quickly turn to slush and further by falling rain. Rain for north and western areas will changeover to freezing rain on Monday Night with icing potentials from less than 0.1 inches to 0.25 inches.

Between snow, mixed wintry precipitation, rain, and icing, surfaces will be hazardous and will make traveling dangerous tomorrow. Icing potentials will remain on the lower side and should not pose a major risk for downing trees and power lines, however isolated and scattered power outages are possible. Luckily, temperatures will not be frigid like they were this weekend. In fact, tomorrow will start the "warming" trend into midweek. With that said, surfaces will be well below freezing, so any precipitation that does fall tomorrow will quickly stick and freeze. Below are graphics for storm track, snowfall, ice, ice risks, as well as a link to the latest briefing!

Be safe!!

Here is Monday's Update. The system has slowed some and definitely over-performed in areas south and east of the I95 Corridor. This will continue into Tuesday. What was supposed to be almost nothing, has become more of a significant storm. Warmer air has not moved in yet, although many areas are slowly moving above freezing. Accumulations will likely move beyond the inch or so south and east of the I95 Corridor, but areas north and west should be on forecast. Snow and mixed precipitation will continue, likely changing over to rain at some point. Some areas have already seen a change over to rain. Tonight, freezing rain is possible, causing minor icing, statewide now. Eventually, all of this wintry precipitation will be replaced completely by rain at some point Monday Evening into early Tuesday depending on your location. Either way, this wintry mess will make surfaces hazardous and traveling difficult! Looking forward to Monday's warm up, yet wet day.

Be safe!

So, half the state is below freezing and half the state is still freezing or below. Areas in green are below freezing and will have just wet surfaces. Areas in blue, the warm front has not made it to yet, and these areas will have freezing or lower temperatures. Freezing rain will have made for icy surfaces on top of any remaining snow and sleet. These areas will have hazardous surfaces and roads. Warm air will continue to move northwest, however it might not make it there for the morning commute. This system and the fronts were delayed compared to forecasts. Use caution in these areas! Many delays already coming in for these areas. Be careful before you step out the door this morning!!
