Governors Surf Fishing Report
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:01:39 PM »
Fished the tournament with some friends and our kids,

Fishing was slow or non-existing  :banghead:  :banghead:   we caught a few small ling that were released back into the waters, other than that nothing,
not even the usual scavengers , no skates or sea robbins nothing, and that went for just about everyone in the beach with around 1000 or so people i doubt if more than 50 fish were caught

but we made the most of it, took turns watching the rods whille the others would play some football with the kids, and sat by the fire BSing  during the night(yes we went last night and spent the night on the beach fishing and BSing)..

so even with the no bit going on we still managed to have a good time

also got to see the surf rocket first hand cool thing it shoots your baited hook about 600-900 feet a cool thing but at $450 its beyond my means :banghead:  but one was donated and raffled off in a free raffle.

also got to stop at the NJOA booth and chat a bit

i have pics of all the winners, will post in a day or so with all the names.
over 900 people entered and only 27 fish caught and recorded. it was like the fish knew the tourny was happening,go there tomorow they will probally be blitzing everywhere, lol.

i have to say though i had a great day, i enjoyed meeting and helping out all the people i could.  even taught a little boy how to cast. for me that was everything. it was nice to see the kids get there prizes, and see how proud their parents were.
also met a few guys from here... great guys.

i helped 5 people catch searobins 900 feet off shore, lol. for one young girl it was her first fish, first cast on her new rod and reel. :-)

Good report!  Sounds like it was a nice day out there!

Only 27 fish caught...that is some bad odds.  Fish must be full from their feast earlier this week!

Not much to say about the tournament but boring.  I guess the Asbury Park Press felt the same way as there was not a word about it in today's paper unless I missed it after going through it twice.  5hrug

As a Judge this year I found it very interesting even though the catch was way off to say the least the people were still very optimistic about the event.  It was a good ol time had by all.

I was roaming my area which was from A8 to A9 and I have to say there were some great people out there.  This for the most part is a family event giving quality them to compete for some great prizes and have a fantastic day out on the beach to boot.

I do not have a list of all the winners but I can say I measured the winner of the Summer Flounder (Fluke) and signed the tag that eventually won the  the tournament.  It measured an even 21".  It was one nice fish.  Other fish I saw caught that day ranged from a short blue a couple of sea robins a stargazer and of course the Fluke.  There was some good black fish action down by the inlet.

I am surprised that there were not more fish caught with that much fooed just sitting there.  BTW the Fluke was caught on a mullet rig with a nice juicy mullet dangling off the end.

I handed out many cards (hint I need more please) and met some good people Congratulations Rich sorry I forgot your last name and also congrats to your daughter if it wasn't for her pole your name would not appear on the trophy this year, HAHAHA.

Plus Congrats to all those that won in their categories and to all the raffle winners.

Great day, good times, even better people.

Thanks for a great day.

Happy Catching

Paul

Sounds like a fun event, despite the political garbage and the bad fishing!!  When my boys get older, I will definitely get out there with them!
