Certain knot for fluke/bucktails?
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:14:12 PM »
So, I'm terrible with knot tying, and am the type to need to do it 20 times before I get it, just showing me in real life, I'll forget it. I was wondering whats the name of the bucktail knot where you have the single hook/teaser bucktail on top, and the larger bucktail on the bottom? Figured to then look it from there and practice tying.

Thanks

With a 2 to 3 foot leader I tie my BUCKTAIL on with a Palomar, then about 10 to 12 inches above I tie a dropper loop for my teaser. Hope that helps not really sure what you were looking for with your question  t^

whs  My way is basically the same, although with some slight variations.

Those being:

1.  I tie on a snap to facilitate changing jigs (using a Palomar or a clinch knot).
2.  I like to use a Bear Paw instead of a dropper loop so I can change the height of my teaser without retying.

nice Bob

good question too. for fluking my go-to lots of times is bucktail on bottom (I use improved clinch usually for all) and a12" long teaser above it like 18". Most times I only use a hook w/ a strip; no upper BT. Amazing how many fish come on the teaser.

I find that when I use 2 BTs, the tangling is much more of an issue, even with the upper on heavier mono than the main leader.

Evryone here nos what a hack I am, so UAYOR

Bob interesting on the Bear Claw , first I've ever seen them. Do they slide on to the leader then you lock them into place?

Skip, I have used them. They can slide on the leader but for the most part they do stay put. It's the lazy man's dropper loop.  ;D Right Bob  :-*

The biggest advantage is that you can take the bear claw off and have a straight one piece leader again.  t^

TIP. Change leader lengths if your line twist

Skip,

They are two pieces which connect together.  They will, sometimes slide down the leader on a good fish, but I've never had one come off.

They've been around for a long time.  My next door neighbor turned me on to them over 20 years ago.  I only use them for fluking.

Exactly. ;D
