Raw water washdown ques?

I was considering installing a raw water washdown pump on the boat. I know its nice to have but is it worth all the trouble of drilling a new thru-hull fitting and the cost of pump and wiring?  Currently if I need to do a quick cleaning I dip the brush in the water and scrub the dirty area. Its not too inconvenient.  What are your opinions?

I like having mine. Is it worth the price and the work to install it?
Don't about that, but when you get some blood or bait in the boat, it's an easier clean up then a bucket of water.

Absolutely worth the cost and effort.

You can not only use it for a wash down, you can also use it for a portable live well water source. Hook a hose up to the wash down and the portable live well and you're good to go.

Constantly refreshes the water in the livewell to keep your baits alive.

consider a tee with stopcock in your existing raw water pressure line. no new holes just make sure its on the pressure side of the pump (engine must be running.) You got raw water to antifreeze cooling or just raw water? Shouldn't matter either way just wondering...

I agree..they nice to have..Being able to keep up with the mess during the day, really speeds up the cleaning at the end. Great point about double duty as a livewell Joe    I keep a portable livewell pump  with a short length of hose on my Jonboat.. If I need to wash off some goo, I just clip the pump to the battery, and throw the pump overboard.. Crude, but effective washdown..

I love having the washdown. I got a leak in the tubing from the pump this year and was without the washdown for a while. I really missed it.

Good point about t-ing it from the live well. I have a 20' cc and that is how that washdown is run.

Hi Warren!  I have a fresh water cooled engine with raw water to the heat exchanger. I was advised a couple of times not to cut any fittings into that line. I do have an extra through hull hole I am not using that has an old speed wheel and temperature sensor in it. Its about an inch in diameter. I did add a new fuse block that has several extra spaces to accommodate future installations. I guess I'm going to install the washdown!!

be sure to use a seacock and not the regular shutoff valve. it is way safer.....here is a link
