Same thing differant terminology......they are usually 50/200 m/h

you get two differant looks at same piece if you run a split screen

 , One is a wide view and one is a narrow view. Your Owners manual should have a better explanation in it. Some manufacturers,like Humminbird offer Quadrabeam which has sidescan too, three frequencies.

Make sure your fishfinder has the capacity for 50/200 or your just waisting money. The 50 is for deep water and the 200 works better in water under 100 feet from everything Ive read. Think about what type also. My old whaler was fine with a transom mount hanging off the back but my new boat/ Maritime 20p /just had to much hull turbulence no matter where I moved it. I installed a Airmar p79 that shoots through the inside of the hull and can run now in any speed and conditions and get a clean signal. They wont work well with foam cored hulls unless you route out the foam.

I got a transom mount Airmar on my Maritime 20p and it pretty much works most of the time. Its a 50/200 khz. 
Barrell, how did you put a shoot through on the Maritime with the sealed deck and foam inside?

You put it in the bildge. The hull there is solid fiberglass, Just set the dial for 10 degree deadrise and you get a perfect signal.
