mckee project boat
« on: January 20, 2009, 06:02:52 PM »
Found this around the corner the other day. He thinks it is an 1986 16' but doing some research I think it is a 14'. He is asking 300 and really wants to get rid of it. I think he will take 200. The engine runs not so great and the lower unit is cracked. The boat itself is in real good shape. there sounds like a little bit of delamination in the transome but it is 20 degrees out so its hard to tell. At worse it gets a rebuilt one. I would like to strip it down and totally restore and maybe repower it. The trailer is probably worth 300 itself.

Has anybody had any experience with these boats? Anything I need to know before doing it? Any info period would help.
Thanks.

70hp seems like a lot of giddy for that
looks like the engine makes the boat sit stern low
mckees are fine boats but fiberglass work can get expensive if you don't do it yourself
you are right trailer alone worth a couple hunje
remember-- working on it will cut into your fishing time...
that size I prefer aluminum

I am in the process of resurrecting a 14' McKee Craft here in Somers Point.   Fiberglass and electrical are done.    Just need to put the right motor on it.

They are excellent boats.   Max horsepower listed on mine is 70 hp.

For that price, MUST need to buy that boat.    If you are unsure about it or don't want to buy it, PM me your information through the board and I will come up and buy it and it make it my 2010 project.    ;D

Seriously.

For a tuice its a nice project boat.
Looks to be a flat bottom bay boat.
If that what you plan to do with her than the work may be worth the effort (less fishing time)
Go on line to Mckee and they can sent you the info. and wiring sketch.
Im re-doing a 16 fiberglass John Dory with a 35 Johnson(way over powered)with a good trailer as a project boat.Just limited on time......
Good Luck.     AJ.
