What can we expect this year?
« on: January 30, 2009, 02:33:58 PM »
Hi All,  I hope your winter hasn't been to harsh.  At least today the temps are a little warmer so I have seen a couple of guys getting out.  I have not heard of anything being landed but at least people are trying.

Well it is time for many of us to set our sights on getting the BB permit for IBSP I have mine and ready to enjoy all the park has to offer.  I am just wondering what to expect this year as the Gov. still has a hiring freeze on and the funds are very low that are used to take care of our natural resources here in NJ.

Can we expect to see areas roped off once again to protect a twig (that's right a twig, ONE) of the Seabeach amaranth?  I can't believe that one little twig that has not been seen in this state for over 100 years can hold a population hostage.  There has to be a better way.  The roping off last year of over a mile of beach from the A23 access ramp to the north jetty was a bit extreme.  But that is what we have to live with, a government that would rather protect a twig than allow its people the right to use a public recourse that we have paid for and maintained through licenses, fees, and taxes.  My simple mind would of said why not move it to a safer place within the dune structure than allow the public to be inconvenienced and put in harms way by roping off that much sand.

If that was done the said plant would not have been put in danger and those that drove through the roped areas at high tide would not have to be criticized for doing so.  Yes I know it was wrong but when it comes to the safety of people over that of a twig guess where my thoughts process seems to go.

If you are thinking of going to the park this year and using the air stations make sure that they are still working.  I say this only because of the cut backs and so with that said I am going out and buying a air compressor for the vehicle and not having to ride on tires that are under inflated all the way to Sea Side Park to fill them up.  Which by the way closed its air station because anglers that were using that facility dumped their garbage and sand there with out regard for the private property that it is.

Be Responsible Everyone, we could loose a lot here.

And with that said this summer will bring a lot of new people to the sand and that means a lot of people that might need help.  As a member of the NJBBA, I would like to mention that if you see some one stuck please, please help them out.  You never know when you yourself will be in that situation.  It will take little time if there are a number of people helping.  Which is a lead into making sure your items that are required are up to par.

Check your First Aid kit to make sure that it has all the necessary things in it like bandages and other things that you used this past year and did not replenish.

Check to make sure the fire extinguisher is in good working condition and is not out of date.

Check your tow rope, chain, or strap to make sure it is in good shape.  If you see any wear on them it is time to buy a new one for Murphy loves to do his work when you least expect it.

Check your folding shovels to make sure you can open it and that the sale and sand has not corroded it shut for ever.

Time to check your jack and jack pad to make sure they are also in good shape.

Make sure you have and they are correct that so important tier gauge.  I carry 2 just so I know I will not be without one.  I keep one in my go to case that houses all my check list items.

Go through the check list and if anything is missing, broken, or even in question, replace it now so you can forget about running all over the place when you would rather go fishing.

Just as with every year there is the talk of increasing the fee for the beach buggies.  The state does not have to tell you before hand that it is raising the fees they just do it.  I would get mine ( and I did) early and not be one of those that will see the increase.

I think it will be a year of unprecedented crowds as there are many not going away for vacations but staying local and that means crowds.  I do not think the park will be closing its doors anytime soon as IBSP is a money maker for the state but I do foresee changes that we have taken for granted gone for a while.

Don't look for ways to complain but do look for ways to change things that will make our park a better place for all to enjoy.

Happy Catching

Paul

Always looking for someone to share the task with.  The hardest part for me is airing back up.

I am looking for an air stem so I can fill 2 tires at once by connecting up 2 chucks to the tires and using the air hose  at the park.  I have all I need except the air stem.  I have 2 chucks with locking arms, gauge and enough hose.

Airing down is not the problem I have 4 deflating devices that I put in the tires to bring them down to 15#.  It is the inflating that I have the problem.  The hips will not let me bend down for long so I wind up kneeling down.  If I could get a air stem I could make a line that clips on to both tires on one side and will fill them both up at the same time with out me having to kneel down.  I have seen these made and they work great.  I will have to go over to Ken's Hardware and see if they have them.

I will start going down the next few weeks to get the summer house ready.  While I am there I will be getting my beach buggy permit for the year.

Paul.. Do I have to have all the saftey equipment with me when I get my permit, even though I will not be entering the beach at that time.

I have a real nice air compresser that I got from JC whitney.  IT screws on to the stem, and then I can stand up and watch the gauge.  I don't have to bend the entire time.

They have not been checking the safety equipment as sign up.  I guess it is because you can get it through the mail if they ask just tell them you are not fishing just picking up the permit.

Pep Boys looks to have the same type I have been looking at.  I think it is around 60 or 70 bucks or so.  They have one for 50 but the amperage rating in my mind is not enough to handle the time needed to fill up 4 tires and I am sure it will over heat.

Yep, that is the same one they have at Pep Boys.  Same model # as well.  I am going to pick that up before the next trip out to IBSP.

Good info Paul!  Anyone who fishes IBSP often, but does not have a Buggy can buy a Yearly State Park Pass.  It is only $50 and good for the entire year for any NJ State Park.  Pays for itself in just a few visits during the "Summer" Hours.

Great write up paul.  Thanks.
I got the permit a couple weeks ago.
I've got 2 out of 3 of my new rods and reels.  And I'm trying to learn to tie my our rigs as we speak.
I can't wait for the spring.

Spring right now seems so far away especially with this cold.  I have been hibernating so far and it feels strange but this year the arthritis is effecting my hands oh well got to make the beat of it.  So I have been tying teasers and so far I have 3 small boxes ready to go and I am starting to tie hi-lo rigs and will eventually move onto fishfinder rigs.  Once completed this supply should get me through most of the summer fishing at least 3 times a week.  Now all I have to do is pick up my bait and hit the beach.

I would suggest that those that are going to try getting out on the beach with their vehicles view the video made by the New Jersey Beach Buggie Association.  It is a good overall seminar on the ins and outs plus etiquette on the sand.

If you are out there this summer look for the maroon Expedition flying the American flag with the NJSWF flag right below, Stop by and say hello.  I love swapping fish stories.
