Cabo 40 or Boca 40 Quantum Spinning Fishing Reel

I am thinking about buying a Quantum reel to go with my G Loomis M/H 7' spinning rod. I wanted a light reel,17 0z. range, that is durable enough for Stripers and inshore fishing using 30 # test line. I really like the Cabo or Boca  40 models. Can anyone give me feedback as to the quality and feasibility of these reels.

Hi and welcome aboard...

I have not used any of the Quantum reels but I have watched videos and read about some of their new innovations.  I like the titanium bail spring that puppy will not break any time soon plus the TiMag release seems like a no brainer in saltwater.

The two reels in that size seem like they should work real nice.  I am a Penn kind of guy but I like the looks of the reel plus the big handle is made for cranking.  All in all a good looking set of reels.

Cabo 40.. have 2 picking up 2 more.. smooth as hell .. Drag is perfect.. I have 30lb braid on them.. you can get thenm a hair cheaper at Mac's in Neptune $ 168.00

For around the same money I would go with the Shimano Stradic 5000.

I like both the Quantums.  They have a lot of nice features.  They seem to function as well as they do in writing.  No one ever has anything bad to say about them or complaints.  One of the fishing shows on Versus...Tailwalker, the Host Capt Scott Walker uses them alot.  Grant it, they sponsor him and have editing features, but he is landing 50+lb sailfish down there in the keys on them without a problem.  They look to handle braid nicely also.  I have never used their saltwater reels, but would definitely consider one.

I personally use a Shimano Stradic and really like it.  I also liked my Daiwas.

I am going with the Cabo 40. I noticed there is quite a fluxuation in price from about $170 to $220 and I can't understand why.
Also, most anglers recommend a braided line with this reel in the 15# to 30# range. When I spool my other light reels, i.e. Calcutta 400, I use a 65# Power Pro with about a 30# mono leader. Any feedback would be welcome.

What is the rod you are pairing it with rated for?  What length, power and lure rating?  If you go too heavy over the rating, you run a much higer risk of breaking your rod.  I personally, think 30# braid with a 40-50# mono leader is plenty for spinning purposes.

only reason for 40lb mono is the damn yellow eyed demons! The rod is a Shimano Teramar 7' pwer Heavy Action is Medium fast Line rating is 15- 30lb..I just order 2 more.. Cabo's are coming also.. Love the set-up I throw the the big poppers and needle baits awesome. i also love snagging bunker and dropping them back.. These are my go to in flurry set-up!!

I am a Taug o maniac and for this fishing I use a G Loomis M/H 7' conventional trigger rod coupled with a Calcutta 400 spooled with 65# power pro and a 5' 30# mono leader.
With the Cabo 40 I will be fishing inshore flounder and strippers. I am coupling the reel with a G Loomis 7' M/H spinning rod. From what I've heard I should go with 30# power pro and 30# mono leaders. What do you think ?

30# is a good all around size braid for most inshore fishing. 

Your leader should be determined by where and what you are fishing for.  For example, if you're jigging stripers with bluefish in the mix you may want to go with a 40# to even a 60# mono leader.  Same thing if you plan on fishing around rocks. 

However, if you're casting to bonito or maybe fluking in shallow, clear water you may want to opt for some 20# fluorocarbon.
