Aftermarket warranty?
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:08:27 AM »
Anyone familiar with Pheonix Marine after market warranties?

I am getting one for 3 years which covers Hull and engine for my 2003 Sea Boss with 175hp Johnson.

Anyone familiar with this particular brand of warranty?

$2k for 3 year coverage.

Pretty much everything is covered except maintenance items.

Small print is have to maintain service records, use a licensed (authorized) repair facility and have a case # before work starts in order for them to pay.

Diagnostics covered if work is covered by warranty.

This is on the 2003 210cc Seaboss in the front of Lightening Jacks.

So you wouldn't think it is worth it?

I am not sure if it is still on land. They are supposed to bottom paint and detail, then plop in water @ Manasquan ruiver club for me by Saturday.

Tell'em you know the guy who is supposed to buy the 2003 they are selling :)

Dropping off yours? Not the replacement I hope.

Just my experience, but I currently have Phoenix American and last week(unbeknownst to me) my raw water pump developed a crack in it and would only leak @ higher RPM's so I was running, seen volt meter drop off to 10.5v & started to smell electrical "burning" I opened engine hatch, seen water on alternator found same to be very hot(plastic cap was melted).Well after having Mechanic diagnos was told I need new pump, possibly new alt.He had to call Phoenix they gave him ok for pump & labor but alt would not be covered.I then called myself & was met with a very rude woman who said water damage to alt is not covered.I tried to tell her it was a direct result of pump failing,to no avail."If your wheel falls off your car we would cover that but no ensuing damage & by the way we are 'saving' you $500" I tried to ask how when originally it cost $2300 for policy & now another $600 you won't cover? She said "well you can cancel @ any time" I asked to speak with a manager she said "you can send him a letter to ...attn claims manag.,anything else I can help you with?OK then Happy Boating!"No lie those are quotes that will be in my letter to them, not to scare you or nothing. This is my 2nd season with the policy & never filed a claim before.I'm running a 7.4 Gsi Volvo. ???

crap, that doesn't sound to good :(

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I imagine if you had to do it all over again, you would not or do you feel even if this $600 is not covered, the policy is still worth it because of the other it is covering?

That is true only if the warranty is honored.  It seems it was not honored in Fishraiser's case.

I would agree if it is a manufacturers extension of their factory warranty, but I have been hearing a lot of negatives about these 3rd party aftermarket jobs.
Even the marina I am keeping the boat at says they do not accept them as they are always trying to get out of paying.

I am thinking I am going to let this one pass by @ $2k.
