Im still alive guys!
« on: March 21, 2009, 01:20:27 PM »
Im still here, just been very busy for a long time. Moving work shops to another building because our lease is up, lots of hours in. Have a girlfreind now for a few months, busier than ever with that. But I also have a question:

Ive always used spinning reel with a 7 or 9 foot ugly stick for surf fishing for fluke. If I werent to use a spinning reel. Im guessing a baitcaster? Am I better off using that for fluke, or stick to the spinning reel? I want to buy a whole new set up for this summers fluke season. What would you guys prefer if I were to use a spinning reel, and what would you prefer if I were to use a baitcasting set up ?

Reel, rod, what lb test, etc.

I usually use 14 lb test from the surf for fluke. Im simple, I just use plain monofilamaent line, I vary colors. And i just hook up a swivel with the pre made fluke rig. I dont use braided line. =/

Thanks everyone, and I hope everyone is doing well, and good luck with the upcoming fishing season!

Alright spinning rod it is. Thanks   TT^

Kenny, I havent fished off the beach since summer of last year. I was pretty successfull for fluke off the tip at sandy hook and at manasquan inlet at the wall there on the Pt. Pleasant Side. Usually got a keeper every time I went. I think most I got was like 4 in one shot.

Hopefully, this year will produce well with the fluke. I LOVE eating fresh fluke. chrz

Hey stranger...good to see your post again.  Mark if I were you like was mentioned I would stick with spinning.  If you want to get the feel of a conventional wew can meet up during the summer and I will let you try my Penn 525Mag and 11' Tica.

Conventional surf reels are not easy to get use to and require a learning curve. If you give them time they are as good as spinning if not better especially with big fish.

Keep in touch.

Happy Catching

Welcome Home !!  Spinning for fluke of the beach has always had my vote. I do use conventional Penn Squidder 140  on 8-9 ft off the surf with bait on bass and blues. Keeps us honest. Good to hear from ya.

I agree with Paul...Stick with a spinner for now. But at some point I would invest in a Baitcaster though, once you master one you can outcast any spinning outfit.
