What temperature do we need to start black fishing inshore ?
« on: March 29, 2009, 07:08:02 PM »
The water temperature is approximately 44 degrees

I would love to get out to the sandy hook reef for some tog but concerned that they are not there yet because of the water temp

Is 50 degrees the magic number or will they be there before?

Before 50 but its the bottom temp that is important. Surface temps tend change a lot this time of the year.

Water temps on the bottom are colder and take a little longer to warm up. But as you see the surface come up so will the bottom

Party boats usually start to catch them again some time in the beg of apr or shortly there after.

Little early yet for Sandy Hook reef. Most of the action will be a bit deeper

We will be starting Good Fri.

I was out last week and fishing in 90 to 100 feet and had action, but anything shallower than that was dead.
