Where in the RaritanBay for early spring stripers?
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:39:40 PM »
Like the title says...
I've had enough of traveling for fish and want to dip my boat in local water and start my real fishing season.  I usually wait for my marina to open at the end of april but I can't wait. I never fished this early from my boat. Where can I go for a good chance at some schoolies or even a weakie in the upper Raritan Bay?  Great kills my best bet?
Even a general where abouts would be great.

TIA,
Joe

any of those reach channels are productive, including right in front of the keinsburg pier, but longer you wait in the season, better your odds.  Good things come to those who wait.

Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Early in the season, it's best to stay on the flats in front of Keyport, Keansburg etc...

I'm sure Great Kills is good too but I usually run over there when the bunker show up.

Jig the channel edges of the Reach, all the way up.  I hit the clam beds on the ocean side in May.

The Flats from Laurence Harbor to Keansburg are the fisrt places with action, then working down to Port Monmouth and Belford.......

Round Shoal, Old Orchard are also good bets once the water warms a tad.

When you are sitting chumming for Flounder, throw out a couple clams on fish finders....you'll pull a Bass in t^

Try the hole just south of the Keansburg Pier.
