Polish Easter-A day of rejoycing and eating
« on: April 09, 2009, 12:25:28 PM »
Sorry Uncle Luna but I guess we all have our traditions and here is our Polish Day of eating.

Sunday mornings start off by going to Mass early coming home and fixing a brunch that consisted of tons of eggs fried and hard boiled (colored of course) Fresh Smokes Kielbasi (Polish sausage), fried Kiska (blood sausage kinda), with plain and cheese babka.

Once that was done dinner is started as the Kilbasi is slow cooked in the kapusta (Polish sauerkraut) for at least 3 hours.  The ham is started as well with plenty of boiled parsley buttered potatoes buttered and greens of some sort.  Once this is completed which is somewhere around 3:00 the main feast begins.

The Opuatic (Blessed Polish Host) is passed around as the blessing of the day by the eldest in the house, this year that happens to be me.  and the wine or beer is poured and we all usually get stuffed to the gills.

After dinner is over and the dishes are all cleared the goodies come out which usually consists of Kruscki, Poppieseed roll, punchki (Polish jelly doughnuts) and a bunch of other goodies.

Not to mention all the goodies the Easter Bunny happened to bring.

I hope this gives you a short glimps into a Easter Feast we celebrate each year.  Is it any wonder I can't loose weight.  BTW I am down 25 pounds before Easter who knows what it will be after.  grtn

Happy Easter and Passover Everyone

Congrats on the weight loss Paul, I have to get motivated myself to do the same, After the holiday  rofla. Whatever background we come from it's still nice to see the family traditions being carried on. It seems the younger generation is going to miss this when we are gone. I have 2 daughter's and neither seems interested in learning how to do the things we do
for the holidays.

Happy Easter to you and the family.
See You at the Party.

Paul,

I'm having a polish easter too. Some Borscht (for them...I can't even smell it anymore!), a few rings from Piast in Garfield as well as a few dozen homemade periogies (potato & chesse and Saurkraut & mushroom).  ;D

Grandma's sour cream, onion and butter sauce over the periogies too!

We'll go with a traditional dessert. Whatever someone else brings.

Can't wait!  t^

There is a polish deli just about on the Lakewood Toms River line called Lusia Polish Deli.  They are pretty good but like with any ethnic food expect to pay top dollar.

Ahhhhhhhh, kilbasi. My favorite. The rest of the family have ham, yuk.

I lost some pounds too, then I looked behind me and found it.  cfzd ;D

Yeah I know what ya mean.  It is like I am lost in this weight merry go round only it is a weight go up and down.

Its all good as I would hate to give up the holiday traditions just for a few pounds.

Sounds like a great Easter lunch and dinner.  We don't do too many traditions anymore in my family.  Just an Easter Egg hunt with the kids.  My grandmother always had a leg of lamb roast on Easter.  Since she has passed away, the sheep have all been safe.  Now it is just turkey and ham!

Congrats on the 25 pounds!  I too, need to lose weight.  The extra baggage I am carrying around is killing me nosmly.
