Raritan Bay 4/9
« on: April 09, 2009, 06:46:57 PM »
friend Ken who I fish a lot with on his boat with him and his wife was supposed to go out with me today, but he was unable to get off work ,so his wife Hon went with me,met her at ramp  7:15 this morning, but we ran in to a little delay, trouble getting fresh clams, she made a run to Freds but they had sold out,so she picked up 2 Quarts of shucked clams and was able to get 3 1/2 doz.at Sayreville bait shop, left Sayreville ramp and hit the Keyport flats, anchored and fishing by 8:30.wasn't to long we were getting some hits,Hon caught the first one that was a nice fat one just at 28 inches that was released, had a few hookups that were lost, then I caught a short,we also managed a few skates.bay was very calm.the little action we had stopped,so pulled up and moved in a little towards Laurence Harbor.anchored and didn't stay here long, not marking anything, picked up and moved back to triangle area, anchored and chummed heavy but nobody home.headed in around 2,nice day on the water, water temps warming up,things can only get better.  Kez

Thanks for the report Kez. The pics are nice too. What was the water temp today?   Hey, If you need bait you can find around four bait shops in the Keyport area and ramps too.

temp 48/49 degrees, have to plan ahead as the bass get here,Fred's sold out early this morning,we started a little late, bait and paint Sayreville only said he had 2 dozen when I stopped, looking to get full bushel, sent Hon to Fred's,could only get shucked, jumped on the phone and called bait and paintball to hold those 2 doz for Hon be there shortly.which he did and actually had a 3 doz and a 1/2.gave them to Hon for $17.50,which is a good price, want the bait shop you normally go to to take care of you.Sayreville shop on my way to ramp, out of the way to run to Fred's,as the demand gets heavy for fresh clams, you have to phone ahead and reserve.   Kez

Nice report... t^...always a good day went spent on the water.

How deep were you fishing? I've been hearing that the better bite is still in relatively shallow water  (6-8').
