Screwed by my local tackle shop
« on: April 17, 2009, 08:41:27 PM »
Went by the tackle shop in Brick today to get some fresh clams for Saturday. I always like to have my bait ready the day before so I can just wake up and go fish. Great weather today and also for the next 2 days. Guess what? NO CLAMS! 5hrug ??? Said they would be here later. OK , I support my local vendors, so I figure I would get them after work. Well everything is closed, and my trusty bait shop that has the honor system for after hours bait, and said the clams would be there later, had nothing! WTF? I will be able to get clams in the morning, but is it me or would you have bait for your customers on the first good weather weekend of the season? I would have got in the truck and went to Point, Belford, even Wolley's if I had to to serve the customers.
Capt. Rich, are you selling bait yet???? <'((((><

I know the shops in SSP both have clams as well as bunker.  I know it is a little out of the way but I can attest to the clams and bunker as being fresh.

If the clammers didn't get out all week the shops don't get clams.  Do you think they are happy look at the money the shop just lost. We had to call all over to find them for today eveyone is low on clams. We called 4-5 shops to get a bushel. Not the shops fault blame mother nature

I would talk to the shop and find out what happened. They might have a good reason for not having them. t^

I think what  Catfish Hunter, and Hunter 2 said makes sence.Keep in mind the weather during the week was miserable even for the clammers.   5hrug

Having dealt with this many times, I can tell you that it isn't always the easiest thing to secure any type of fresh bait.  As CF said, sometimes they're just not available.

I'm sure they would have preferred to have them in stock for you their other customers. t^

I always look ahead, thats why I wanted clams on Friday for my Saturday trip. As Paul stated, clams were available in Seaside, and a buddy got his in Point Pleasant. I wanted to be loyal to my bait shop and choose to wait until later, rather then go to the competition and purchase them there. See, I got screwed , I should have shopped somewhere else. So thats what I did this morning, got clams at my first stop somewhere else, no problem.

I do understand the issue of the clammers who supply the clams, and they supply the whole area, and yes,if the weather is bad, they supply drys up, but when it becomes a delivery issue, go and get them like some of the other guys do.  <'((((><

It is not the tackle shops fault, there has been a nasty roll  in the Ocean and the clammers were not dreging

Least yours were only half dead. I picked up a dozen in Brigantine on Friday morning, and never checked em until I got onto the beach. There wasnt a live one in the bunch. They stunk somethin terrible! Thank God I picked up Bloods! I would really been upset if I didnt have something alive for the fish NOT to eat!  5hrug

Of course, but that doesn't excuse Non-disclosure from the owner of the Tackle Shop. I am to blame for dead Bait, but He is to blame for my going to a different shop this morning for my bait. I actually drove into Atlantic City 4 miles outta my way to "not" go back to that B&T.

I gotta get some for this weekend but I think i have about a dozen left over from this past saturday plus some generous guys gave us a few bloods and sandworms. Bait stores are most likely more pissed at no clams then the fishermen.

I understand you being upset... But if the tackleshop cannot get clams themselves. They cant sell ya any?

When we get a big storm the clams boats dont go out... springlake dont get clams... charterand party boats dont get clams....tackle shops dont get clams...

They do not grow on trees... and have a shelf life...

So if its between to choices... By alot and sell dead crap clams or keepem coming fresh...

Same prob last week at alot of shops...

I am sure they would love to have clams for you.

We just came off our second 3 day easterly blow... with not to many days in between.

And believe me your local tackle shop will get strung along as well thats why they say check back later

Just so you see the other side of it
