Clams are the key to success in the Raritan. Great weather had everyone scrambling to the Raritan Reach in search of trophy bass.
Captain Joe G. landed his first three keepers of the season with bass to 34 1/4" and released over 17 shorts. Most anglers this weekend reported plenty of action in the bay with hopes of bigger things to come.
Further south Captain Allen aboard Reel Class Charters from Pt Pleasant stayed close to home and worked up some good flounder action on the outgoing tide. The Reel Class chummed hard and picked away at flounder on sandworms with fish from two to 3lbs.
Also from Pt. Pleasant die hard Captain Jerry and crew aboard the Fish Monger are togging in about 60 to 100ft of water. The Fish Monger is working north and mixing it up with keeper blackfish, cod, and topping it off with a few sea bass and ling.
If you have not made it out yet, it is not too late. It is actually just starting to turn on. With bass action in the Raritan on schedule, May should hold up to be very fruitful for bass anglers. Remember be safe, be courteous and keep your distance.
