Been using circles for years on hi-lo rigs and they work fine while using clam for bait in the surf.Bass are usually hooked in the corner of the mouth. Bunker heads or chunks I prefer the slider rig with your choice of hook (circle or "J") If blues are around minimize extra stuff(swivels, beads etc.) they will eat anything at times. You can easily use snelled hooks on slider rigs for a better connection. Long leaders can twist up in rough surf so match the conditions. I use less than 12" on bunker heads to minimize tangles and twist. Pre-tied rigs are available at most local bait shops. Hope this helps  t^ t^
