Your Friday, April 24, 2009 Lack of FISH report
« on: April 24, 2009, 06:36:05 PM »
Well, went on the Mohawk from Belmar, NJ.  We left the dock at 625AM and headed out.  We arrived back at the dock at 315PM.  SIX keepers or so for the boat and I was not one of the lucky ones.  Georgeous day on the ocean as my pictures will tell the story.  But they were not biting.  Who knows why.

My first time on the Mohawk and I am impressed with the Captain and Crew.  They really care about providing customer service to the folks on board and they have a good sense of humor.  I will fish with them again.

Saw the Dauntless, Ocean Explorer and Fish Monger on the water.  No idea how they did.

Over heard a guy on the boat saying he spent $300 on bait for winter flounder fishing this year and had ZERO keepers and was skunked almost all the time.  Not sure how much bait is $300 worth.  I know during fluke season I buy sand eels and or smelts, but for the season I have no idea what I spend.  What I do not use I freeze for the next time.  So I do not know if that is a lot or not.  I did not ask him.

However, I was glad to be back on the water, its been two months.  I love being on the water.

Be good!

Nice report Jim. That boat does do a good job. Pretty much if they aren't catching, nobody's catching.

I would think that $300 for winter flounder bait is a whole lot of bait, meaning the season has only been open for a month or so.

Thank you all.  For those who know me,they know  I love being on the water.  Yes, of course I would like to bring home some keepers, because I love fish.  I'd eat fish everyday.  No problem.  Plus, I have gone through all the fish I had in the freezer.  So I am in a store bought situation for fresh fish.

I hope next time is better.

Be good!

Joe,

Yea, I just over heard him.  Other folks were talking to me, so I could not find out what he meant.  Seemed like a lot of money for nothing to me, but as I said, I buy smelts and sand eels, but I have themfor the next time, so sometimes I don't have to buy new ones.  I already have them.

Be good!

went out on mimi and it was actually pretty decent day keeping us busy until 11am or so when the south wind kicked in and shut the bite down.  Made a right turn out of the inlet and took an hour ride.  surprise of the day was I got a 10lbs blackfish on  a small shrimp lmao.

nice report t^  as for the $300 for bait,I think that if all of us had the money back we spent for bait thru the years,we would have quite a bankroll. ;D
