Hudson Stripers '09
« on: May 03, 2009, 09:44:47 PM »
Finally got a chance to get the tin boat out today for a few hours this afternoon... I met my buddy John and launched on the Rondout in Kingston about 1pm .. headed out to the river with about 1/2 of  the outgoing left.. Perfect Striper weather.. steady S breeze and spittin rain  ;D  Headed south and started trolling a couple Bomber 25s's while I looked around at a few of the usual haunts.. Started marking fish right away, and picked a few schoolies up to about 8lbs.. as usual in the muddy Hudson, any color worked as long as it was chartruese..  t^ Trolled about 2 miles down to one of my favorite low water spots, and set the anchor.. Had some nice freshie herrings and sent out some chunks.. Had action right away, but the first few bites where from channel cats.. after about 20 minutes, we had our first bass, and had steady  action on Stripers to about 15# , and catfish to 5# for the last hour of the tide.. Kept 1 10# male for my mom's dinner and headed back to the dock at the slack low around 5:30.. My buddy at the marina hooked me up with a slip for the next couple weeks, so we left the boat there so I can get out evenings after work while the fish are here.. Hoping to get Fluka Brasi launched and down to Keansburg next week, but thankfully the Stripers up here will keep me busy weeknights  chrz

I would'nt wait too long Rug.. Water temp was 59 on Sunday.. Bunker don't make it up this far, but theres plenty of herring around..  even though I did'nt have much time, I marked fish pretty much everywhere I looked.. I've seen years when it warmed up fast, and they where here and gone by the 3rd week in may.. hopefully this rainy week will keep the temps from rising too fast..   but it's on for sure.. Give me a holler when ya come up this way  chrz

Made a solo run for a few hours this afternoon for the last half of the outgoing.. Wanted to try out the rod I built over the winter.. my 1st spiral wrap.. I planned to use it mostly dragging bait for fluke.. but it trolled a Bomber 25a quite nicely! Only was able to troll up couple 20-24" schoolies on it.. but I think I going to like it  TT^  Dropped the hook a couple miles south of Kingston and fished herring chunks.. Catfish and eel bites where constant, and I had a hard time keeping 2 lines in the water.. but managed 3 more Stripers to about 12# before the tide died at about 6:30.
