« on: May 07, 2009, 01:00:34 PM »
as of now only using a Hummin bird 300 fish finder, have no GPS,was looking at and checking out the 363 combo fishfinder Gps,does anybody have one that could give me some feed back on this unit,I mostly fish Raritan Bay and occaisonally hit the hook, mostly a fair weather fisherman, don't like rough seas or no visibility, and normally don't fish at nite.would this work for me,any input appreciated.    Kez

no info on the humming bird lines,,

but having a gps unit is really nice. makes it so easy to drift over specific spots, even as water currents change, you can just adjust your position and the start to compensate for the currents. i do it pretty much every trip.

get a hit, or bring fish over the rail,, mark the spot and drift it a few more times. i really do belive my catch ratio would be alot less without gps.

just looked that model up, and honestly i dont like it. small screen not color, and the built in unimap as per hbirds site say's "On the coast, this clearly shows features as small as canals, and many coastal navigation lights"

sorry but its not like a canal is really all that small, and how about all nav aids. its really nice to know where those unlighted markers are if you happen to go out early in the dark, or get knee deep into fish and come back late.

as for the size of screen and color, they really are just preferences.

i would continue to shop around to find a ff/gps that will take a map card. the people that make them put everything you need to know into them, and are very detailed.

if for no other reason,, i belive it would just be a better safety item

Kez, I have an older Sitex that I do not use. I think it is the Neptune model. Not a large unit and it is black & white. I don't want to sell it cause it is not totally user friendly in putting in waypoints (that's why I took it off the boat), but it will show you what you need to know. The last I used it it worked just fine.

It's your's for the asking. Comes with the c-map charting (older map). Don't think I have the book for it anymore but can show you the general use or maybe you can get the documentation on line. I plugged it in earlier this year to check something out on it and it worked fine then. Let me know if you want it.

thanks for the offer Joe,just started looking for ones, and I do need my ff replaced,so looking at combos, just asked about this one, starting out with a simple model, this one also comes in with a color screen for a few dollars more, not looking for anything to elaborate or real exspensive, boat is only 19ft and a small console,I really don't have room for a big screen.also the more user friendly is better for me,I'm at the point where I shouldn't have anything more complicated than off or on.thanks again for the offer. t^     Kez

I have the 595 combo on my other boat and I think it's great. The only thing I wish it had was a dual cone.

Hey Kez,

I have a Garmin 192C GPS / sounder combo that I purchased about 4 years ago and removed from my boat before I had to send her to the scrap yard.
I was holding on to it for a new boat but dont know when that will happen so I am looking to sell the unit. Like new with full continetal us chip.
Anyone interested?
