Irish Ayes shakedown/bluefish bite 5-12
« on: May 12, 2009, 07:30:43 PM »
Met Capt Mike, Hareball and Capt Mike's bro-in-law (Bob) at the boat today. Headed out the Shark River Inlet and immediately marked fish. Dropped jigging lines down and Hareball and I were instantly hooked up. We both brought up some nice sized sea robins.  ;D Back they went.

Moved out of there and headed north. Did not mark any more fish on the move and did not see any bird play. Made it to the Shrewsbury Rocks and got some marks on the screen. Tried jigging some with zero success.

After loosing the marks we went on the troll and hooked up with some bluefish. Again dropped some jigs down and started hitting the blues with the jigs. Bob was the first to hook up and brought in his first ever bluefish.

Hung around the area for the duration. After a period of non catching we went back on the troll. The port side rod takes a big bend, fish on. Hareball takes the honors with the rod and cranks in a 32" striper.

This brought us to jigging again. The bluefish were now a dime a dozen. Jigged up many and kept two for a neighbor. The others were released to fight another day. Never got another bass.

Nice day fishing with some good friends. I also got to play with my new electronics. Set up the heading sensor compass to overlay the radar onto my chartplotter. What amazing equipment they have out now-a-days.  t^

Pilot, I got the Raymarine C-80 display, hooked up radar, sounder, gps, weather and heading sensor to overlay the radar onto the chart.

I outed all my other electronics except for the radio and my furuno 585 sounder.
