Hunter 2-- Sunday May 17, 2009
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:57:56 PM »
Pulled out of Keyport around 11:45am with Steve (mass baster) 0n board. The high winds created high waves! We dropped anchor on the Raritan reach by buoy 16. I had plenty of readings on the sounder but nothing was biting. I spoke to Capt.Carl who had good luck today but I did not want to go further out of the bay to much worse conditions. :P :P   Then I spoke to Warren (WB) and he was way up the Raritan bay but he was not doing great with he Striper's in that area. t^ We decided to make a move and anchor up by buoy 34 on the reach channel which is right near a cliff on the shore that blocked all the wind and provided us with some calm seas. We had good readings on the sounder and the tide was starting to head out. We tossed out some Clams and bunker but the fish were not biting. I had a number of hits and one breakoff on a small white shad that I was casting out  but I was not able to land anything. The shad did not have any teeth marks in it so I know it was not a bluefish.. After a while Steve and I decided to fish the Keyport flats so we could at least have some fun with Bluefish. We anchored up and tossed out the baits and and top water poppers and had a blast for about an hour and a half. we landed and released around 30 Bluefish and called it a day.  TT^  Good luck.. Eddie

Eddie,

You've been getting a ton of time on the water.  Nothing wrong with the blues when the stripers won't bite!  Nice pics.
