Angela Rose II striper trip
« on: May 19, 2009, 05:34:38 PM »
Captain Mike and I had Jim and Tony on board for Angela Rose's first charter of 2009. We left the dock at 730 with bass on our minds. The game plan was to head north and fish the Shrewsbury Rocks, stopping on the way on any good marks or bunker.

Breaking the Manasquan Inlet put us right into a nice pod of bunker. We had Jim and Tony jigging while Mike and I threw snag hooks into the bunker pod. We snagged several and transferred them over to the live lining outfits.

After several drifts around the bunker pod we decided to give up on them as there was no action. We did not see any other boats hooked up.

At Elberon we spotted more bunker. We saw nothing in the stretch between Manasquan and Elberon.

We set the bunker lines out again and, shortly after, Tony's rod starts peeling out line. After a good fight Tony brings in the first keeper striper of the season.

We stayed in this area keeping on the outskirts of the bunker. Jim put the second bass into the boat, another keeper.

The guys had about five runoffs without getting hooked up. The bunker were brought in to be changed and we found them to be scaled and somewhat bruised by what was apparently bass.

Two more keepers were boated by Tony and Jim giving each their 2 fish limit.

The first fish was weighed on an uncertified digital scale and it lit the numbers up at 21 and 1/2 pounds. The other three fish were in the same weight range.

All in all, not a bad start for the season for the Angela Rose II.
