Had Bob G and Bucktail Bob on board today. We could not catch a thing today.

Left the dock at 8 and was again greeted by bunker right at the inlet. Captured a few and live lined them with no takers.

Moved north and stopped on a some good readings. Had one bunker get assaulted by a blue fish that did not find the hook.

We went as far as Long Branch with no luck before deciding to turn around and head south. As we were heading down the beach Capt Jerry called to tell me that he heard reports of tons of bunker and some bass being caught off of Spring Lake. By now we were just passing the Shark River Inlet and not far from Spring Lake. We could see the ever growing fleet in front of the hotel.

We did find the bunker but now the school was pretty broken up by the fleet. Another big goose egg for us there. Moved even further south finding more bunker but nobody was interested in our offerings.

We did get to see a whale today. Came out of the water several times near us. Could not get to the camera quick enough for a pic.

Also saw an apparent recently released bunker finning on top of the water. The interesting thing was the approximately 15-20 inch striper swatting at the bunker. The striper lost out on it's meal when a seagull swooped down and took off with the bunker.

Got to the dock and time for clean up. Tilted the motor out of the water to give it a drink of fresh water and found about a hundred yards of mono wrapped around my prop. It had to come from some bone-head fisherman who just dumped his line into the water. Was able to remove the line with limited trouble. Removed the propeller and did not find any damage. Hopefully I did not cut the seal for the lower unit, appears to be fine though.

Will probably be out Friday for my next attempt.  t^

Joe a good detailed report and you did observe some things with the whale and the gull taking the bunker from the striper,get em next time,lucky with the mono not doing in your seal,had braid do mine in at the end of last season. t^     Kez

It was great fishing with you guys today, even if we did get the skunk. :P  It was definitely not for lack of trying!

That whale was a cool sight for sure!  It's always amazing to see such a large magnificent animal swimming so close to you.  t^

And speaking of amazing; how about that Bob G?  Not only is he a machine at snagging bunker, but (until today) I never saw anyone be able to pick out an individual bunker and snag that specific one!  Incredible! ;D

Can't make it out tomorrow Capt Jerry. Should be out Friday though.

Bucktail, Bob G did have a hot hand with the bunker snagging. We now have fluke bait as I brought home more than a dozen, salted them down and will use them up this weekend.  TT^

You need to be on them bass early then 8am... The crowd will kill the bite fast.. Maybe see you friday am??

Still a little early for me to be too serious about the bass to get up at O-dark-30. When the bunker come in stronger, then I will be out earlier.  TT^

As long as the weather holds up, I will be out Friday, hope to see you on the water.  t^
