Raritan Bay 5/25
« on: May 26, 2009, 10:02:59 AM »
had nephew John and his son Johnny out for an afternoon and evening trip to get the striped ones.met friends Ken and his wife Hon at the ramp they were going out also on there boat, thank God I had talked to him earlier about getting clams,so I called ahead, good thing both Sayreville Bait and Fred's were closing at noon,so Ken picked up a bushel for me at Freds.left out of Sayreville a little after one and set up on the flats.Ken went further up off the Reach, plan was if either gets a hot bite give a shout.as soon as we started each of us had a run off, with Johnny having the first, but we missed them and that was it,stayed here thru the slack and a while into the incoming, but nothing.moved over off the Red Bank Reach and Johnny hooked into his first Bluefish, which gave him a good fight but was lost before boating, then Johnny gets a Striped one on and it looked like it might be a keeper,as it got along side the boat and diving I thought it was going to pull Johnny in.got it in the boat,a fat 27 incher that was released, that was it for this spot, moved back to the triangle area and tried here,Johnny got another short.chummed the rest of our clams heavy here, but that was it,headed in around 7:15.wish we could have had more action, but still great day on the water.
