Alright, fished aboard the Eagle out of Atlantic Highlands yesterday. Around 650 am we headed out towards the point and spotted some cocktail blues, messed around for a little while landing a bunch of those. Cant believe how much fun 3 lb bluefish are on light tackle ugly sticks with 6 lb test.
Got to our first spot, maybe 1/2 mile to a mile away from the NYC coast. Not sure exactly where we were. Started using fresh clams, anchored up, 1 guy caught a short striper at 26 1/2 inches. Couple skates were caught, etc.
Came back to Sandy Hook fished the channel about 300 yards from a Green Buoy, casted into the current (which was ridiculously strong by the way) and had to be very patient. After a little while, a striper was caught, just made keeper size, then a few shorts, then the keepers came in 5 in a row. I was waiting all day to feel somethin, and out of no where (bammmmmm) there goes my pole, little yank back, and fish onnnnnnnnnnnn! Wasnt a monster but it was a keeper striper. 30 inches, maybe 8-9 lbs is my guess. My step brother ended up somewhat falling asleep on his rod waiting for a fish, and bammmmm! 19 inch fluke
We then fished another spot, and it produced not one fish. Ended the day there around 2 o clock.
Finished the day with 7 keeper stripers up to 15#, biggest was 33". A bunch of cocktail blues, and my step brothers 19" fluke.
Had a great time out there, with such beautiful weather, and a great group of guys, including Captain Mike and Mate Jay.
Wish I had pictures, but only on my phone
