The Day from HELL
« on: May 31, 2009, 06:50:03 PM »
Went to the boat last night to net bunker.. NOTHING..

Slept in the truck and woke up early to catch bunker.. NOTHING again.

Met a friend from work who never caught a Bass and a friend of his who never went fishing.  I figured I will get them into something, even a bluefish.

Cranked the engines and batteries were dead.  I just replaced them both June of 2007.  I jumped it and ran fine for a while.

While sitting in the knoll with only junk fish and 1 striper at 27" and reaching slack tide, I went to make a move down the beach.

Batteries DEAD.  Called Sea Tow for a jump.. ZIP.. Nothing.. So, had to be towed in.

Cleaned the boat, bought 2 new batteries and started fine, but by that time I was sooooo pissed, I called it a day.

I thought for sure that I will get my friend into some action, especially with the bluefish around.  The only thing that could stop that from happening, happened..

Till next week.

what ticks me off the most is, I only get 1 day a week to myself to get on the boat..  When that day is taken away from me, then I really fall far behind on where the bite is.

And the dumb ass that I am.. I promised them at least bluefish action.. What was I thinking?

Sorry to hear about your day Nick but days like yours today is all part of the game. Had similar days when I had my boat.

FYI, not that it makes a difference now but I saw more bunker in the back of the back last night than I have seen all year. Saw at least 7-8 big pods and a few smaller pods of bunker.

That stinks Nick! :P  But I think most of us have had to take the "ride of shame" back to the dock at some point.  ;D If you own a boat it's inevitable.

yeah, I took that ride a few times.. This was the first on the LS3 though, and sure enough, Boat US took me right through the Flukin Fleet off the hook.  Bastard..

have anyone heard of replacing the batteries after just 2 seasons.. I don't put as much use to the boat as most, and I shut them down after each trip.  Hopefully its nothing more then the batteries.  The tow boat guy said he doubts that both alternators blew at the same time.  We will see.

Nick,Two batteries in two years seems like a short time between replacements.I quess it happens, but why both at the same time.
Is something draining them out or killing them?

maybe the bilge pump, but nothing should drain them since I turn off the batteries after every use.. thats the strange part.  Even if i left something on, the battery switch will kill everything.

Nick that sucks! Sorry to hear it. Alot of times in dual battery setups, one battery with a dead cell can draw the other battery down making it appear that both are "dead." I'm unsure how your batteries are wired in with the switch, but if the switch doesn't disconnect them from each other, its entirely possible. Load test them each seperately.
