Originally planned to not fish today so I didn't schedule any trips - however I got a lot of crap done yesterday and last night after my cert test @ OCC so I freed up this morning to fish. Made a couple of calls on the short list, and got a 3 man crew together last minute to fish the 6:30-11 shift before I had more crap to do this afternoon.
Anyways, got out as planned at 6:30 and with limited time I told the guys we were going to fish the river. Fished from Clark's E to the inlet. Started out real close to home, had a lot of action with some short fluke with a wind against tide. Ran closer to the inlet, more of the same. Once we had incoming water, the fish got a little bigger. Scratched out a few barely keepable sized fish right near the inlet, then went back to the stretch W of 35 to pick a few more keepers plus a load more shorts.
Most of the shorts today were 10-15", with only a few in the 16 to 17.5" range. We boated approximately 80 fluke with 6 being nice keepers of 18-19.5".
All fish were taken on light or ultralight tackle using bucktail/gulp combos and/or jigheads tipped with gulp. Live killies fished on light bucktails also produced a few fish. Anthony was high hook with 3 keepers, Doc wound up with 2, and I had the other. Jason kept the shorts out of the way for us! no birds, no sundials, every fish boated was a fluke. A good morning - weather was lil crappy, but the catching was good.
