Is this combo alright ?

is the reel to heavy ? the rod seems perfect!

i think the reel is a little heavy.....i use the avet sx with braid....not to heavy and a nice balance on the outfits....most of my blanks are seeker or star rods tho.

i just use 20 lb mono line , havent lost a fish yet with it...

Any combo will work, its what YOUR comfortable with that matters.

Are you looking to upgrade, or just looking for opinions on what your using?

Personally, for me, that setup is way to heavy. But again, if you like it, thats all that matters.

Plenty of lighter, easier to handle setups you can put together, both spinning and conventional.  All depends how much ya want to dish out $$$

Like Duffman said it is a bit heavy but an all around good outfit.  It will handle anything that is around.  But for fluking it is a bit heavy.  I like a setup that has a little bit more action to it.  You have to almost let the fish hook itself and not horse it with a hard strike on your part.

Fishon, I have a lot of Penn conventional reels old and new, many were my fathers. My dad always took the levelwinds off said they were a problem. Now that I am older and take care of the reels I understand. The newest Penn I have is a GTO  2 years old and yes the levelwind is a problem they will hang up and then put a small chip in chrome on the worm gear which then has to be replaced. Other then that they are great reels and will last a life time and then some. If you can afford to step up to the Penn International series I belive the level winds are better. Personally I can't afford to go there.
