Capt.Ron/Fishermen/ Please bring the proper tackle!!!!
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:58:39 PM »
Once again, my yearly rant about bringing the right tackle...
Fishing deep water, fast current, crappy conditions isn't going to make it with a noodle rod or anything that bends in half with an 8 to 12 ounce sinker! These fish aren't stupid, by the time you come back to set the hook and take the bend out of the rod, the fish is gone! That's how they got to be big in the first place..
Unfortunatly we are forced to target BIG fish and as you know anything 18 inches and over is a Big fish in todays scheme of things.
If you like to fish light tackle, that has it's place and time and is the way to go when conditions warrant it, but why not be preparred when the current is running 2 knots and you need the weight? It's still fishing, maybe not bucktailing with stingers and all kinds of other crap, just good ole fishing, the proper way!
I watched a customer's ugly stick with 10 ounces of weight today bend completly in half as he lifted to check for a bite....shoot me..these aren't suicide Fluke!!!
We fish where we have to and do what we have to do to try and produce, if you listen and do the right thing, you WILL catch fish...Thanks! Capt.ron

don't you supply boat rods for times like that.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Yep, use the right tool for the job. Like trying to use a butter knife as a screwdriver. Just doesn't work all that well.

When the current picks up you can not use the noodle rod with the 6 lb test line on it. Tuff to control 12-16 oz of lead with that. :P

Good post Capt Ron.  t^

Thanks for the info Rich...
I'm not big on model numbers and all that other stuff......way too old school to change my ways, but I know there are some great set-ups out there! A survey says most guys have a minimum of 6 rods in the garage. Sounds like that should cover just about everything we catch around here??          Capt.Ron
