Wet Dreams 7/1 Bass, Blues and Sea Bass
« on: July 02, 2009, 08:06:59 AM »
Had the John Holzer party out today....despite the weather forecast we headed out at noon in flat calm seas. Decided to run to the Scotland before any of the weather came in. Stopped on some bunker pods on the edge of the channel but nobody home. A few drifts and we had a few seabass in the box and lost a fluke that i can only guess was over the 12lb mark (leader rubbed on the trim tabs and broke off at the boat)Coast Guard pulled up to see if we had any Stripers on board and i kindly replied "Now I know better than that Capt."  to which i got a laugh and a good luck fishing today Capt. as they shoved off.
Headed back to the knoll and got on my anchor to break some clams just as the wind started blowing....lasted about an hour then it got flat calm at change of tide....we had steady action for 3 hours on the biggest dogfish i have ever seen in my life...then the bluefish showed up to 14lbs and then the bass showed in the slick and we managed bass to 35 inches.
All in All a good day and the guys were happy!

Sounds like a great trip Captain Carl. Tough luck on that big fluke.  rgmn Did you hook him around one of the wrecks you were fishing for the sea bass or in the channel?

Those "ENDANGERED" doggies sure are getting very big. We caught a bunch on the Fish Monger at the end of May on a sea bass trip and they were huge.
Don't these people who set the rules understand that they are feeding machines and eat all the young fish they can.  How else can they get that big.   rgmn

Hopefully doing a NS private boat trip out of Brielle tomorrow for Sea Bass and Fluke if he gets enough to sail. Otherwise it will be the 100 foot NS boat from Belmar for fluke.

Everyone have a save and happy 4th of July weekend.

Tight Lines,
Bob G

hooked him in 70 foot of water out off the s bouy on the broken bottom....gobbled up a whole clam but the angler was under the boat the whole time....moved him to the stern but the line was already in the trim tabs....saw the fish but couldnt get any more line in to get it to the net!

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
