mixed bag fishing 7/3
« on: July 03, 2009, 06:33:57 PM »
my self and son Brian (striper74)met friends Ken and his wife Hon at their house in Sayreville at 4:30 this morning.out of Sayreville around 4:45 and heading for the Shrewsbury Rocks on their Boat "The Breeze".Hit the hook as the sun was coming up,beautiful sight, took a picture.fishing on the rocks a little after 6,action right from the start,Brian pulls in a seabass, then a small fluke, then Hon follows with the big one for the day,a nice fat flattie going almost 24 inches.picked fluke, seabass  and ling.a lot of hang ups and loss rigs.late in the morning the bite slowed,so we moved to the Scotland grounds, where we got into in good pick of seabass in a very fast current and large swells, would pick them up on a drift, tried anchoring but couldn't hold the bite on anchor.had to put on 8 and 10 oz wgts on the drift to some what hold,Ken was powering the boat to hold us on the bite, picked away pretty steady on them,Brian caught the biggest one,but it was another fish with its tail bitten off like the fluke in my last report.we ended the day with 4 keeper fluke,16 seabass and 2 ling, plus a good many throw backs.great action day on the water,my ass is dragging right now, after being out early 2 days in a row. Don't forget that large pod of dolphins we passed off the beach at about 5:45 this morning,  a pretty cool sight indeed! t^  I'd say there were at least 6, probably more......  I've never seen one up close, they're beautiful!  Unfortunately, Ken never slowed so we could get a pic nosmly

Overall, a good day of fishing! slt

Capt. Carl, is it really a secret????  HMMMMM?????  Very strange current here today for sure!  Maybe you can enlighten  us? chrz

It seemed the water there really swelled up a lot compared to the rest of the area......  Big, fast rollers.... (compared with every other drop we made 5hrug)  I wanna go back, of course only with proper wind, tide and drift conditions.... so I guess I'll see you there next season! rgmn

as a teen a party boat out of bayonne fished scotland all the time for whighting and ling
back in those days you caught a burlap bag filled with them you pulled them in two three at a time some of the old time skippers might remember the nancy june and the sea jake that was back in the 70s unfortunately we no longer have party boats in our area just like the old
days of the long branch pier

yes its a secret! stop bringing it up!!!!! rofla

yeah that area can get a  roll to it....it drops off from 40 to 70 feet there really fast almost causing a  "rip" effect (just like the roll you get when you cross the mud hole)add a little wind and tide it can be a bit sloppy there! i love the variety you can get there tho!
