Hunter 2- Mon July 6th report
« on: July 07, 2009, 05:08:52 PM »
Not so good,  I head out alone around 4:30pm to try some Fluking. Keyport bouy one had shorts so I head across to the Staten Island side for more shorts. :-\  I made the run up the triangle and the drift was nada 5hrug.. I read around .2 or .3 mph on the gps.I picked up more shorts bucktailing.I saw small baitfish breaking water and tossed everything over them with no results. :P   The no drift thing was killing me so I went back to keyport with a nice 1 m.p.h drift with no fish. I head for the the slip and had a refreshment. t^ chrz

Great effort Eddie. Tuff conditions make for a long day.  :P

Nice try Eddie. Still fun, I'm sure.

3 things I like to do w/ no drift when targeting fluke:

Cast out the bucky and retrieve it back. You can actually cover some considerable ground with this technique. Bonus it keeps you occupied with thinking like a fish, trying to make your offering move realistically. I think this has helped my flukin hookups a lot and I realize how much easier it is to bucktail w/ a nice drift.

Powerdrifting which can be tricky while solo. I like option 1 better.

Head back for refreshment. That ALWAYS works 100%

Good way to increase your catch on a no drift day Warren.

I try to find a spot where I have caught sea bass on previous trips and float around that spot hoping for either a sea bass or fluke to jump onboard.  TT^
