Decided to fish closer to home today and not make a run to the reef. Good Choice. We started on the New York side of the Reach hoping for some 21" keepers. First drift I nail a 23". Next drift my son gets a 21.5". We kept setting up in the same area and we caught some shorts and one more 23" came in. It was tough to keep the same drift with the wind and tide shifting, so we moved down the channel a bit and my son banged a 5.5# and I got a 5#. The little guy is starting to heat up and once he does watch out. We moved to way back in the bay after the action slowed and managed 3 more keepers back there. I think I let go 3 fish over 18" myself and we had 2 more go back too. The 5 bigger fish weighed 3.8, 4.7, 4.9, 5.1, and 5.5 pounds. All big fish caught on either plain Gulp or tipped with spearing. My son had 2 teasers rigged about 6" and 12" up from a Spro with 2 different Gulps on the teasers. He likes to give the fish a choice and it worked. All in all a good day with a short ride home. I took some pics but left the camera home. I'll post them later or tomorrow.
