Had Tom Hill & Family charter the boat today for a day of fluke fishing. Got up to the beach first thing and saw a giant washer machine so I made the call to fish the river/bay yet again.
Got a few fish right off the bat in front of the marina, with Tom taking 1 nice keeper at 20". That shut off, so we headed for the bay to catch the last of the outgoing. Fished a few spots in the very N end of the bay and caught fish at 1 spot right in the mouth of the canal. Picked away there, with one more keeper going in the box.
Ran back to the river after that dried up, and caught nothing but cabbage, shmegma, and crabs through the slack. Once the incoming started, we got a slow but steady pick going w/ the fluke. Mixed in size again, but most fish were over 16" with many in the 17.5-17.9999" range still swimming. Still managed a few more keepers between 35 and the canal.
We wound up with about 3 dozen fluke (36ish), with 6 being boxers to 21". All fish were taken on mai tai bucktails fished with live killies and gulp teasers. In the pic are Tom's kids Justin and TJ holding the 4 best fish of the day; Tom led the way with 3 nice keepers. Great day was had by all, and they'll be back in about 10 days.
With the crappy forecast for tomorrow, we're going to give the river a shot yet again and hopefully have another solid day --- still a couple of spots available if anyone's interested.
