Just returned from my annual vacation with the family in Ocean City Maryland. Trailered the boat down and was able to slip out for a few hours while the family slept.
First trip out on 7-31 produced only a few shorts as the bay water was very dirty. Fished all the typical baits, except Spot with not much action.
Second trip on 8-5, I was accompanied by my in-laws. As the sun broke we had the bay to ourselves, watching all the big boats leave for the White Marlin Open. Passed a nice pod of dolphins north of the Rte. 50 bridge and begin to fish clean water. The in-laws used the basics - squid, shiners, killies and I stuck with straight big bait gulp. Generally the hot bait here for keeper Fluke is live spot but for $2.00 a fish I decided to stick with the gulp. After a hour I had 2 keepers in the box, while the in-laws were picking away at shorts. I offered to share my gulp, but they insisted on using their bait. Another hour passes and I limit out (3 fish at 18"). I give my mother in-law a 6" white grub and she finally adds a 19". Ended the day with 4 keepers in 3 1/2 hours. All 4 fish around the 19 - 19 1/2" mark. Lots of boats out as we ended our trip didn't see many keepers being boarded. Again, it seems like everyone is using live Spot, but my BIG gulp worked out great!
Back home now and looking forward to joining the Fish Mongers next week to put some more meat in the freezer!!!
