pipefish fly for bluefish

for those who fly fish and love to catch bluefish you might want to try a pipfish fly.  i wish i could remember the name of the creator of this fly so i can credit him, but it is tied starting at the middle of the hook shank leaving half the shank bare. 
although this fly wasnt specifically made for bluefish, its design keeps the hair/feathers away from the fish's teeth ensuring a longer lasting fly.

the original was made by capt. steve huff.  basically it was made to be used in the keys, especially on "rising" permit.  its original pattern is very sparse, eyes/thin bucktail, i added to it to make it fuller (easier to see,mathing baitfish size) considering the fish we are throwing too are not as pattern sensitive as a permit.  mine is below. cant find picture of the original

if you tie clousers or half and half's or even decievers then you already have the instructions on how to tie this fly. just start halfway down the hook shaft, leaving the first half bare.

the way i tie is not what the original pattern is supposed to imitate. i came across this pattern and thought it would be benificial to use for bluefish for the simple fact that it will last a little bit longer than other flies against those teeth. so i started tying them using the same concept as clousers,  half and halfs..
