BIG BLUE MARLIN
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:08:39 AM »
Headed out to the Toms Canyon with Kirk,Danny, Jason and Dougie and found cobalt blue 76-77 degree water. As soon as we reached the edge we had a triple header of small keeper yellowfin on. Went 2 for 3 on the tuna then all was quite until 1200 when we had another trio of quick bites that we believe were mahi but they didn't find the hook. Worked up to the Hendrickson Canyon fishing in depths of 3-5,000 feet before heading back towards the flats. At 2 pm we were working a weedline in 1000 feet and cut through the weedline to start heading for home when the "man in the blue suit" showed up and ate a close ballyhoo/islander bait. The fish was hooked on a 50 wide stand up outfit and nearly dumped the reel before we got the lines cleared. Took approximately 60 minutes to get him to the leader with several jumps on his part. We leadered him several more times but he was still too green to grab him by the bill for a photo. The decision was made to break the fish off to minimize the stress to all involved. Estimated weight at 600-700 pounds. Got video of the battle with the jump just trying to figure out how to upload it.

Capt. Rich probably has the best price going.

I have paid up to 700$ for this trip..  That is a great price..  and something everyone needs to do at least once a year.

I don't want to hurt your feelings but with bait and fuel it only cost us $125.00 per man. Heck, it has to cost you $50.00 to fluke fish on a party boat these days. Other than the mortgage payment for the boat and the tens of thousands of dollars in other gear - it really isn't that bad.  ;D

Great report and great catches!  That is a nice fish.  You can see enough in that picture to see it is a nice fish.

I too, a suds pounder, would like to get out at least once and do some of that offshore fishing.  I'd love to do it at least once in my lifetime.

Yea.. those prices sound right.. But the Charter Captains do get a pretty hefty price for that trip.

I hope to hit the Glory and Chicken In my boat on Good Weather Days   ;D

True the cost isn't that bad i guess but you never know who your getting matched with. I was saying get people from the site as a group. I think it would make for a better trip. As a coast guy all of my trips on the boat havent been that good. You got guys getting so drunk hammered that they dont even know what there name is let alone be able to fish. All the goods trips i had was as a kid on my uncles boat the big marie s out of belmar, but he sold the boat  :'( :'( Plus people will enjoy it more if it a group that really has never gone out there.  TT^

Great job Chris. Kudos on the release to keep the fish healthy.  t^

It may be a mortgage payment, but that new vessel of your's is one sweet ride.  t^

Thanks for the kind words Joe. I love the new sled but the Parker was very good to me - I fished her hard. See you on the water.
