Irish Ayes Fluking 8/26/09
« on: August 26, 2009, 06:54:53 PM »
Met up with Capt. Joe, Pete and Matthew for some fluking today.  With the poor reports over the last couple of days since Bill made his appearance we really didn't know what to expect today.  The one thing we knew for sure was that there would be a light 5 - 10 knot wind. ::)

I caught a half dozen snappers to add to the bait arsenal before we left the marina and we were on our way.  We headed north and our first two drifts produced nada - not even a sniff.   Seemed like it was going to be a loooong day.

Oh yeah, and that 5 - 10 kt wind was now blowing hard (around 20 - 25) and it was only around 9 am. ;D

Joe moved us to a spot a bit further north and we immediately started catching.  In fact, we stayed in that general area for the rest of the day and had action on every drift! t^  OK, maybe some of the action involved a few winged creatures here and there, but the fluke action was also pretty consistent.

The flatties bit on most everything we fed them.  Joe's whole squid was working for him, while Matthew and Pete leaned on squid, smelt and peanuts to catch theirs.  I caught all mine on a bucktail and teaser combo tipped with Gulp, snapper and some of the baits already mentioned.

Final keeper tally for the crew was nine fat fluke up to 20", with countless shorts.

Great day on the water with Joe and the boys.  Thanks for having me aboard Joe! t^

Good to have you on the boat again Bob. Good day of catching, although a lot were sent back to the bottom.

The weather man almost had it right today. He did say there would be wind.  ;D

Thanks John.  BTW, while we were fishing a guy that docks his boat near Joe stopped by and showed us a nice dolphin he caught at the reef.  It was almost as big as the one you got yesterday!   Very cool! ;D
