Fishguts family bay trip 9/5
« on: September 08, 2009, 06:37:25 PM »
Sorry for the late report but computers have not been my friend this season. As I end my season before Labor Day I like to take my wife and young son out for the last trip of the season. They always seem to be able to put a decent catch together and we have a great time. The plan was to get some chum, clams and worms and target small seabass, blowfish, and kingfish near BB and BI. The bonus action would be blues ,throwback fluke and weaks. We had great conditions with a nice slow drift and a fair pick of fish.We worked the areas west of BB/BI in 7 to 9 feet of water(1/4 mile inside the fleet). It was mostly small seabass and fluke with some nice blowfish mixed in. We finally set the hook and chummed heavily but the bite was just as good on the drift. Not a wide open bite but good action. A couple of hours produce 10 nice blowfish,a jumbo kingfish,a few blues,14"weakfish,plenty of small seabass and throwback fluke. We fished with small porgy rigs, plain kingfish rigs, and 1/8oz shad darts. The clam bits caught as good as the worms.Just one of those very special days. Both my wife and 7 year old wont let me hook their fish anymore but they will let me take them off ;D. A stop up near Seaside  made for a perfect ending to a great morning. We made a stop at a favorite weakfish hole( that has been lame this year)and found some hungry fish. I had to get into the action after netting the wife's second 18" fish.A few drifts and 10 weaks and 12 short fluke we headed home in time for lunch. Its sad to see the season end but now we all look forward to next season slt Good luck to all and catch them up
