So Who Got in on the Bluefish Blitz in SSP/IBSP??
« on: September 21, 2009, 01:51:43 PM »
Anyone get in on the action in IBSP and north into South Seaside and Seaside Park?

Looks like a lot of big alligator blues taken in the surf for several hours.  Might still be going on in Seaside Park?!  The phone call I got was that it was like old times...when we were kids.  The blitz is crazy with big 15+lb fish being landed...WAHOOOO >:D!

Of course, I am sitting here stuck at home rgmn rgmn...missing the good stuff ;D.

Paul and I were out there this morning.  Lots of hits from small blues.  I landed 2.  We just weren't in the right place at the right time for the big ones.
I had to leave around 10am and a mess of them being landed on the way out.  Paul was still out there when I left.
I'm thinking about heading back out.

I tried yesterday, but no luck.  Seems like I arrived after they were going at it.  I might get out this evening to try again, with the mullet sitting in my freezer.   TT^

Nice catch LT!  That's always the way...it's a lot of luck and being at the right place at the right time.

Jason, if you go out, good luck!  If the blues are there blitzing all you need is a hook ;D!

Hi All,

Well I would not call it an all out blitz but they were hitting hot and heavy.  After Chris left I caught 3 blues to 3 lbs in the area from A12 to A17 all on Mullet.  I lost quite a few due to the size of the hook I was using.  I dropped down to a 2/0 and started to hook up.  Loads of fun but my bait ran out and Bunker and clams did not work, they wanted mullet.

I drove south and started to see the sizes start to increase but out of bait I had to be a bystander.  Drove even further south to the pocket and even though it was packed those that had a spot were catching. And I am talking blues from 15 to over 20 but this time it was all top water plugs cast into the white water with a medium retrieve speed and Bingo fish on.

If you are not a skilled caster I would suggest not even trying that area as you will be certainly be the fox in the hen house.  It does get crowded and these fish are big enough that an angler once hooked will have to do a dance up or down the beach to get the fish landed.

There are plenty of fish all over the place just be patient and use the right bait and you will catch.

The things to look for are of course the schools of Mullet cruising up and down the beach within casting range.  Cast into them with your bait of choice but I would match the hatch on this one folks.  Forget the clams as many in the SSP area are out of them and one of the main sources did not go out today due to sickness (feel better soon).

The color for today seemed to be blue and white Bottle Poppers.  Deadly...

The only problem with giving this info out is that the color might change tomorrow that is to say if the big fish are still around.

Happy Catching

Paul

Glad you caught some fish!  I got a call to get over to the beach by a friend and he was in an all out blitz...like he hadn't seen in years.  He was just throwing Hopkins and landing one a cast.  He followed them until they got too far out and them they came in again in SSP...so he got into them again.

SO, bottle plugs were hot today!  I would have been right at home... ;D

Yeah, it was nice to see the fish so active not to mention fun.

I have got to get out there again tomorrow AM.  BTW the Pelicans are still around and they were feeding heavily on Mullet.  Bunker were being chased up on the beach around A19 but that was an isolated incident from what I can tell.  Free bait for those that were in the area.

Happy Catching

Good Luck LT!  I may go out tonight, but not until after 7...when Daddy Daycare closes and my wife gets home.

That must have been a sight...the pelicans and all the bait washing up...fun times.  Was Grumpy there trying to snare the Pelicans 5hrug ;D >:D?

My bro just called.  Bluefish are going nuts out there right now.  He said he just pulled in the biggest blue he's ever seen.

Like Bucktail mentioned the season has just started.  If this is any indication of how it will be get ready for a banner Fall.  I also saw 2 good size bass hit the beach as well.  Everything was on top water plugs like I mentioned further up in the thread.

Yesterday it was blue and white bottle plugs today I have not heard as I was not able to make it out today.

Yesterday all the big boys were hitting from A23 south to the Pocket.  You can read the report by going up...
