Well here goes...My Uncle and I hit the beach pre dawn and drove to the inlet to hit the change in the tide.  To my surprise it was void of all vehicles, strange.  We set up and started with clams.  The water was a tad rough but not to bad in fact it looked like good fishing water not perfect but good.

Pre sun up and it is about 51 degrees out there the water was definitely warmer than the air.  As the sun just popped up and my Uncle gets a hit, a small skate oh well at least it was something we thought.  Than about 30 min later and not a hit we changed bait to mullet thinking we would target blues.  About 15 min goes by and my rod tip takes a dive.  Fish On, it gave a good fight and when it hit the beach we were surprised to see a nice keeper striper close to 30" and when weighed in at Grumpys it scaled out at 8.3#.  Not to bad for the first keeper bass of the Fall season.

After my Uncle caught a nice sized seagull (released unharmed) we decided to move up the beach where we met up with Chris.  I will let chris fill you in on the rest of the morning... ;D

But here are a couple of pictures of the day.  My Uncle is holding the fish.  Too bad you weren't here Fenwick... rofla rofla hhppy hhppy slt

I'll pick up where Paul left off....
I hit the sand at 7am.  Started at A7 and hit a few spots working my way south.  It was cold, windy, and no I was having no luck.  I'm thinking "this is gonna be a short trip".  Then I hit a spot just north of the pocket and wade out to the outter bar and cast a monster mullet.  That resulted in a blue, maybe 3-4lb in the box for lunch.  So now I'm happy I got landed something. 
Then Paul pulls up and says "look in the cooler!!".  Very nice looking fish by the way Paul.  t^
We worked our way north and hit a couple spots with no luck.  Paul leaves and I have about 15 minutes before I have to leave.  So I cast out a bunker chunk on a FF rig.  Within 2 minutes, FISH ON and running east. 
So I start attempting to bring in whatever this is.  After one heck of a fight I get it into the wash and confirm it's a bass.  Get it on the sand and I'm thinking "ok this is a good size fish".  When I picked it up I realized how good sized  cfzd 
Since I had to be places, I drop the fish in the box, pack up my gear and call Paul...."Meet me at Grumpys, I got something to show you".

So the result was my first ever striper was 46 inches and 26.8 lbs.

What a day ;D

Thanks guy.  I'm very excited.  I would have been happy with a short for my first.  This makes the quest to top the personal best tough.

Cut him up and had a nice dinner plus a few meals in the freezer.

When we weighed in at Grumpy's, they commented that a fish that long with that big of a head, should be 10lbs heavier and he must not be eating well.  Very thin fish.  Stomach contents was 1 little crab  5hrug

Yeah, Chris my guy was loaded with crabs I guess that is why he was so chunky.

That's okay Ruggie, it was a rough day out there as the surf was starting to kick up a little.  But I have to say it was easier to read the cuts and the rips gong out.  We fished the points of the 2 bars and that is where we found them.  It pays to learn to read the sand.

If those that put down surf fishing would take the time to study it more closely they would be more productive more than not.  I am showing my Uncle the ins and outs of the beach and he is starting to realize that there is structure to what seems like a flat beach.

Good luck everyone this weekend looks like a wet and wild one... :P
